More about Joy

Monday May 25th to Friday May 29th 2020

Why we invited Joy Skipper

One of over twenty cookbooks on which Joy is credited as author or nutritionist

Based in Henley-on-Thames, Joy Skipper has worked in the food industry for over twenty years, writing food features and cookery books as well as advising clients on the benefits of a healthy diet and lifestyle.

Joy’s expertise as a nutritionist, together with her experience as a successful Masters sculler and long-distance cyclist, makes her the ideal guide for an energetic athlete’s holiday on the Dordogne.

Training with her will enhance your understanding and appreciation of the part nutrition can play in achieving your fitness goals.

What Joy is planning :

Joy writes: “For the past 16 years I’ve been competing as a rower and sculler, in lots of lightweight and heavyweight Masters events. I also took part in the first Row Zambezi challenge. More recently, I started to compete in endurance cycling events, including Bangkok to Singapore and LEJOG, and I’ll be taking part again in Le Cure in the Alps.

All this has helped me understand the demands put on body and mind by tough training schedules and races. And it fits in beautifully with the Sculling with Yoga courses being developed at Chez Boileau.

Joining in with the Bergerac team gives me an opportunity to meet other athletes, and to help them reach peak performance through diet and lifestyle changes. And it allows me to spend more time in one of my favourite regions of France!

My programme: Here are some of the activities I’ll be pursuing during my time in Bergerac:

Sculling: Getting to know the river while working on stamina and technique

Cycling: Trying out some new routes with interesting stopping points

Yoga: learning some of the new routines for warmup and stretching

Food markets: Making the most of traditional food retailing

Local producers: exploring local vineyards and food farms

Cooking: How best to deal with the local produce?
